While many families begin “wind down” time with their kids shortly after dinner, for ours, that doesn’t work. Daddy often gets home a bit late and the kids crave “rough play” time with him. In fact, you could say they not only crave it, but Luke actually needs it in order to help organize and, oddly enough, calm his body for sleeping.
However, Mommy won’t give up on the importance of quiet, wind down time. And that is where crafts have been coming in. As one of our evening quiet time choices, we often offer crafts. The kids love them and it is something that they can enjoy with Daddy, Mommy or both of us depending on our work and commitment schedules. Yet, as everyone knows, outside of simple coloring, crafts can be messy. And, what parent wants to deal with a big mess before bedtime?
Enter Do-a-Dot! One of our favorite more recent finds. These handy little bingo-type markers allow the kids to enjoy painting – on paper, boxes, nearly anything – without making the usual painting mess. Love it!
Last night, upon Luke’s request, we all spent a long stretch of quiet time enjoying painting a box that Daddy and the kids have been turning into a little house for Luke and Nina. No mess. No fuss. Lots of smiles. Then, ready for bed with less fighting than some nights.
Truly, I cannot recommend Do-a-Dots enough for mess-free, fun-filled, evening (or anytime!) crafts. For even though they are a bit pricey, with a 40% off coupon at Michael’s, they are well worth their price!
